Boris Johnson diagnosed with COVID-19, US infections surpass China, Italy
Spain’s death toll is on track to reach 5000 after the country recorded another 769 deaths in 24 hours.
The death toll stands at 4858, the second-highest total after Italy’s 8214 fatalities. Infections climbed by another 7800 to 64,059.
But Fernando Simon, the head of Spain’s health emergency coordination said there were signs the numbers were stabilising.
“It’s true that we have more deaths than what we saw yesterday, but it’s also true that the percentage increase today is similar to that of the past three days and it appears there is a stabilisation,” Simon said.
