Brisbane man faces trial over cold-case killing

A Queensland man has pleaded not guilty to the alleged cold-case murder of his wealthy uncle more than 20 years ago.

Robert James Wagner faces trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court over the alleged January 1999 killing of Gerhard Wagner.

The court was told Wagner’s uncle had “considerable assets”, was last seen riding a black Kawasaki motorcycle and had plans of sailing the world on his large yacht before his disappearance.

His body and the motorcycle he was riding have never been found, crown prosecutor Philip McCarthy said.

Mr McCarthy said the Crown contended Gerhard “is not someone walking the earth as we speak”.
