Bushfire threatens lives and homes south of Perth as city swelters

Residents of Oakford and Forrestdale south of Perth are being urged to leave their properties after a bushfire watch and act alert was triggered for the area just after 4pm.

The fire started near the intersection of Nicholson Road and Rowley Road in Oakford and by 4.15pm was moving out of control in a north easterly direction.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services warned there was a possible threat to lives and homes.

The watch and act has been issued for people in an area bounded by Nicholson Road, Rowley Road, Tonkin Highway and Armadale Road in parts of Forrestdale and northern parts of Oakford.

The department warned residents to leave now if the way was clear as well as close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.
