Fatal car crash driver to be charged from Brisbane hospital bed
He was expected to be formally charged at a bedside hearing on Thursday with evasion, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, serious assault of a public officer, and three counts of a dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm or death while excessively speeding, a police spokesman confirmed.
Mr Islam, who died when the stolen SUV on the wrong side of the road smashed into his sedan, had just finished building a new house in Brisbane for his wife and young son.
He was a keen community cricketer and was on the way home to his family after giving their newly built house a quick clean when tragedy struck.
Police said the Mitsubishi 4WD had been stolen from Toowoomba on Monday.
Officers tried to intercept it just before midnight on Tuesday but the driver sped away, with officers electing not to pursue.
A short time later the vehicle smashed into Mr Islam’s hatchback.
