Global design competition to transform Olympic Park into ‘green space’
The NSW government has launched an international design competition to refresh the Sydney Olympic Park
precinct as the 20-year anniversary of the 2000 Olympic Games draws near
“This is a chance for world-class urban designers, landscape architects and architects to put their stamp on Australia’s premier sport and major events destination,” Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes said on Sunday.
The area surrounding the stadium is covered with brown pavers but the transformation promises to turn the site into a “green, people-friendly space”.
“The Stadia Precinct upgrade will complement the planned redevelopment of ANZ Stadium by the NSW government, and the end result will be a world-class precinct that offers the best possible experience for visitors to the Park, inside and outside the stadium,” Mr Stokes said.
