Following the closure of several businesses in Beaufort Street, social media users pointed the fingers in various directions for the iconic street’s woes, blaming parking issues, and pipe replacement works in the area.

However, experts warned economic and competitive pressure was behind the business failure on retail strips across Perth.

Empire Homewares was founded in WA more than two decades ago, with six different stores trading across the Perth metro area and the South West.

The company shared their decision to close down their Highgate store on social media, taking the chance to thank their customers and announce a store-wide closing down sale.

“Empire bids farewell to our Highgate store,” the company wrote on Instagram.

“Thank you to all our customers for your support over the last 12 years.”

Outlets in Claremont, Osborne Park, Dunsborough, Fremantle, Busselton and Yallingup will remain open.
