A man who allegedly held a woman at knifepoint before sexually assaulting her in her own home has been arrested.

Police caught up with 35-year-old Takavaha Leveni, of no fixed address, at a property on Flemington Road about 2pm on Wednesday.

The arrest follows an appeal for information from police on Tuesday.

The man is alleged to have forced entry into the woman’s Footscray home on February 28 and confronted her with a knife when she investigated noises about 6am.

He then allegedly sexually assaulted her before running away.
