Man charged with murder after Brisbane doctor dies in alleged hit and run

A man has been charged with murder more than six weeks after a Brisbane doctor was found semi-conscious with critical head injuries in a cul-de-sac and later died in hospital.

Police will allege 53-year-old Peter Dunne was the victim of a hit and run, committed by an unlicensed driver, about 4am on February 18 in Strathfield Street, Tarragindi.

Dr Dunne, a regular jogger in the area, suffered skull fractures, brain injuries, significant bruising to his eye socket, a broken ankle, scratches to his lower legs and hand injuries.

He was rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remained in a critical condition until Sunday, when he died from his injuries.

On Thursday night, a 32-year-old local man was charged with murder, driver of a vehicle failing to remain at an incident and assist an injured person showing callous disregard and unlicensed driving.

He was due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
