The EastLink Melba Tunnel near Loughnan Road re-opened late on Saturday morning, between Maroondah Highway and Springvale Road, a Department of Transport spokesman said.

For almost nine hours, VicRoads is requested motorists to avoid the area, and use alternate routes such as the Maroondah Highway, or Canterbury Road to Springvale Road.

A police spokeswoman said investigators were working to determine if two abandoned vehicles located in Mooroolbark and Bayswater this morning were linked to the shooting.
