Fire action is starting to take off now, with the Rural Fire Service upgrading another two bushfires to emergency levels, meaning a total of three bushfire emergencies are currently in place.

The fire emergencies regard the Hillville Road fire on the Mid North Coast, the Gulf Road fire at Torrington, and as previously mentioned, the Thunderbolts Way fire at Bretti also on the Mid North Coast.

Communities affected include “concentrations of population as well as scattered rural and isolated developments as well,” RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons told reporters. It is too late for those residents to leave and they should seek shelter as the fire approaches.

Commissioner Fitzsimmons said the fire emergency is unfolding as expected and “fortunately” there are no new fires to report at this stage.

“I think it’s fair to say the events of today are unfolding in keeping with the weather forecast and expected fire behaviour,” he said.
