Shopkeeper beaten with tyre iron during robbery
A convenience shop worker has been rushed to hospital after being beaten with a tyre iron during a robbery north of Brisbane overnight.
The thief, armed with a tyre iron, stormed a Margate convenience shop just after 8.30pm Saturday and demanded the attendant open the cash register.
“The staff member then armed himself with a baseball bat and the two exchanged multiple blows before the man left the store with a sum of money,” a police spokesman said.
The 28-year-old shop attendant was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition for treatment to his head and face, as well as a broken arm.
Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area and to contact them, particularly anyone who may have seen or know of a man with unexplained injuries to his face or head.
Investigations were ongoing.
