Siblings face court over death of Tamara Farrell

Siblings Shaye Kotiau, 22, and Kieahn Kotiau, 19, were charged over Ms Farrell’s death.

They faced a committal mention at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Shaye Kotiau appeared in court by video link, while his sister, Kieahn, sat in the front row of the court room with her supporters.

The court was told a doctor would assess Mr Kotiau to see if he would be mentally fit to stand trial.

Charge sheets state Ms Kotiau concealed the body of Ms Farrell in her vehicle, assisted in the disposal of Ms Farrell’s remains in Nambrok, including destruction of identification and evidence by fire and assisting in the secretion of evidentiary of items.

The court was told four lay witnesses, the police informant and a medical expert would give evidence at a committal hearing.

Shaye Kotiau faces one count of murder, while Kieahn Kotiau faces one count of being an accessory to murder.

The pair will return to court on October 29 for a contested committal hearing.
