The Block star Suzi Taylor found not guilty in escort extortion trial27th April 2021
Former The Block reality TV star Suzi Taylor and her co-accused were found not guilty of extorting Ms Taylor’s date, tying him up and holding him against his will at their Brisbane unit in 2019.
Ms Taylor, 50, whose name is Suellen Jan Taylor, and Ali Ebrahimi, 24, were charged with deprivation of liberty, extortion, fraud, attempted fraud and assault occasioning bodily harm.
The incident allegedly occurred at Ms Taylor and Mr Ebrahimi’s three-bedroom riverfront apartment in New Farm on October 30, 2019, and involved the complainant, David Butler, who was 33 at the time.
During the four-day trial, Mr Butler claimed that when he refused to pay for Ms Taylor’s escort services, Mr Ebrahimi entered the room, attacked him and tied him up with an iPhone charging cable.
Ms Taylor and Mr Ebrahimi claimed Mr Butler had entered into a prior agreement to pay for sex.
Mr Butler initially claimed there was no discussion about payment, but later conceded there may have been an agreement to exchange money for sex.
Mr Butler admitted lying in parts of his original police statement and in previous testimony to Brisbane Magistrates Court over the incident.
After the not guilty verdict on Thursday, Ms Taylor’s lawyer, Michael Gatenby, spoke outside the Brisbane District Court.
