It’s alleged they spoke to the woman and offered a lift home, which she accepted.

Police said it was at this point she was instead driven to a secluded location off Twilight Beach Road, and dragged from the vehicle by the driver.

It’s alleged he physically assaulted her before dragging her into nearby bushes and sexually assaulting her.

The Cold Case Squad commenced a reinvestigation into the decade-old case earlier this year, and formally identified and arrested a man last week.

The man, from the Esperance suburb of West Beach, was charged with aggravated sexual penetration without consent and deprivation of liberty.

The 42-year-old will appear in Esperance Magistrates Court on May 7.

“If you are or have been a victim of sexual abuse, or if you have information about someone being abused, please contact police on 131 444,” a police spokeswoman said.
