Woman charged after fatal stabbing on island off Queensland coast
Detectives have charged a woman with murder after a man was stabbed on an island in Queensland’s Gulf Country.
Police will allege a 32-year-old woman, who was known to the victim but not a family member, stabbed the 50-year-old local man with a knife in the upper abdomen on Mornington Island on April 9.
Officers were called to a home in Wurrurku Street on the Gulf of Carpentaria island about 10am.
The victim was found on the floor in one of the bedrooms with blood on his face.
The local woman was charged with murder on Monday and was due to front Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Police said a scientific officer from Townsville, Mount Isa detectives and the State Flying Squad had been sent to the Island to help wrap up the investigation.
Detectives were speaking to family and neighbours to establish the circumstances of the death but they were not looking for any other potential offenders on Tuesday.
